Australian cruise ship trapped off Uruguay, 60% of people are infected with COVID-19
According to a report by CNN on the 7th, 60% of people on an Australian cruise ship trapped off the coast of Uruguay were recently detected infected with the new coronavirus. Australian and New Zealand passengers on the cruise ship will be evacuated from the ship on the 9th.
The "Greg Mortimer" cruise ship of the Australian Aurora Adventure Travel Company departed from the Argentine port Ushuaia on March 15th, and the destination was Antarctica. In early April, the cruise ship was trapped off the coast of Uruguay. The Uruguayan government refused to disembark cruise passengers because of concerns about the risk of the new crown virus.
A total of 217 people on board, including 128 passengers and staff tested positive for the new coronavirus. Six "life-threatening" patients have been transported to Montevideo for treatment. Video released by the Uruguayan Navy shows that they are wearing full protective clothing to transfer patients from the cruise ship to another ship.
European passengers and American passengers who are currently testing positive will continue to stay on board until they become negative before they can leave the cruise ship, after which they can leave via Brazil. It is reported that all passengers on the cruise need to be tested every two to three days.
